Looking for the Cuban salsa scene here? I have read that there is a school of Cuban salsa in SD? Anyone ever taken classes there? Also seem to be some classes in Cabarete? anywhere else that anyone knows about? Anything in Punta Cana? Definitely only looking for Cuban salsa, can't get the hang of salsa en linea, or starting on the opposite foot and have been disappointed in the salsa scene in general here (but awesome bachata!) Any info on any location welcome, many thanks.

To my disappointment havn't met any cuban salsa scene in DR. And very few local people who can dance salsa good enough for me to enjoy it. It's a matter of cost, one needs classes. You can see it in merenque/bachata concerts - when the band plays the dancefloor is full, during the break with a little salsa just 2-3 couples dancing.
The best dancing I have seen is in la Bodega in Las Terrenas, they have also a good danceschool besides, where some teachers dance very good cuban salsa.
Also you should visit Las Ruinas in Santo Domingo on sunday evenings. Such an atmosphere you don't meet even in Cuba.
There are also two salsadiscos in walking distance to las Ruinas.

Hier adresses of a few salsadisco's:
Parada 77, 50 m down Calle Isabella Catolica from e/c Emiliano Tejera, really nice, dancer's mostly tourists.
Canario, Calle La Atarazana, down the stairs on the left outer corner of Plaza Espana, nice Restaurant, small Dancefloor, very loud.
El Sarten, Calle Hostos, 100 m from Hotel Mercure, after Onno's. Dancer's mostly dominicans.

Valeu Cara!
For salsero heads like me, its frustrating when a good song comes on, the dance floor empties, the girls that dance really just do a cumbia and they say "pero no me de vueltas", but everyone sings their heart out.

I use to do Rueda, but I will try Las Ruinas one day.

My 2 cents.....

A few years ago a young Cuban started a Cuban salsa casino school, which is a very Cuban way of dancing salsa. You can even dance with more than one woman at the same time. lol

Not sure what your point is… there are lots of dance studios in Havana, actually. But I'm looking for Cuban salsa HERE, as I mentioned in my original post. There are Cuban salsa studios and groups all over the world, and some here as well. But thanks for responding??????

Thanks everyone for the info. Hope to get my casino on soon… si dios quiere…. by the way, for the son aficionados, there is an outdoor bar in Haina with a huge dance floor where the viejos go to dance son one a week… I believe it is Sundays…. definitely worth checking out if you are into son.

I dont think Cuban Salsa has a good reputation among salsa dancers in DR..last year I visited a dancing school for Merenge, Bachata and Salsa in Santo Domingo and the teacher made some stupid comments when I mentioned that I dance cuban salsa..

Contact Rodolfo Montano Castro at 809-776-4233 or 809-592-6921.
You'll get all infos about everything related to dancing in SD from him.
But his a professional high level teacher and maybe doesn't do much for free.

Back in the day....
Everybody said that the best place in the D.R. was La Romana.
Lots of Salsa places and "everybody" dances.
Supuestamente.

Check out the small Cuban restaurant on Calle Jos? Reyes in Zona Colonial. They are Cubans and they might know if there are places where people dance Cuban style.
I have found the best salsa dancers in DR are in the barrios, but 'on 2' NY-style. They have competitions between barrios in car wash discos like D'Home Run in Manoguayabo, absolutely world-class salsa dancing!, nothing like the 'beginners' level in most discos.
