Im not sure if this is the right area to post, but can someone tell me what this is? I sent money online to another account at my bank. Impuesto Art. 12, Ley 288-04/0.15% i was charged .15% of the transfer, and i assume this ggoes to the government? 20 cents isn't a big deal but what if I transfer $2000 or something. We are talking about $37 tax?! is there a cutoff as to where this tax ends? any insight would be helpful. thank you

Which bank was that? Ask them for their fee schedule, should have it all laid out there. Assuming it's 0.15% for internal bank transfer, the fee on $2,000 transfer would actually be $3, not $37.

Yes the bank collects this small percentage on behalf of the government . The law actually says that if the money is a gift, in the law they uses the word donaciones.. then there is a 25% tax , but this law at present is not enforced .

In Leon they did not charge anything for online transfers between the two accounts that are both in your name ... in Santa Cruz they don't today ... how is the new BHD, I cannot say though. But transferring between two own accounts done via Internet Banking should not incur this charge, transferring between accounts of two different account holders would, though.

Even when you pay a credit card online you get the same thing, it is treated as a transfer between accounts.

Did you make an international transfer? Cos if its international, all banks in this country charge a transaction fee of 50$ US and .15 percent.
