Default Worldremit - New transfer option to DR.

A friend just informed me about Worldremit, a UK based remittance company that competes with Western Union, Moneygram and Xoom.

Worldremit allows transfers from over 50 countries to more than 110 countries, from your credit card or by wire transfer.

My friend is in Canada and has been using this for 8 months now to send money to his family in the DR.

He uses app and the whole process takes just a few minutes. After he confirms the transfer, the money is available in the DR for pickup or deposit into a bank account. He says that the money shos up in the DR bank account within 5 to 10 minutes.

The fee is a very reasonable US$3.99 flat rate for transfers of up to US$1500. the deposits and payouts are made in Dominican Pesos, but the exchange rate is quite reasonable (44.2 today) as per conversion numbers on Worldremit's website.

You need to download the app, everything is done by the app, but before you can start sending, you have to verify your identity, by sending/uploading copy of your ID and correspondence showing your address, such as phone/cable bill, bank statement, etc.

The company is HQed in the UK but they have legal offices also in Denver, USA and Canada.

I thought it might be interesting for DR1 readers to know about them.

My friend says he has been using them for 8 months now, up to two times per month, and always without any issues.

They are not new. Here are some reviews from 2012 and up to date.

If up to date you consider 18 months ago, well... anyway as with any online money remittance companies, you need to verify your identity. If you do not do so or do not do so in a way they can be sure you are who you say you are, then delays will happen. Regardless if it is Worldremit, Xoom, Western Union or PayPal.

at this time it looks like you can only send money to Dominican Rep, not From It. That's a one way transaction

You can still send if you are in the DR and have a foreign credit or debit card.

    Default PayPal and Banco Popular

    According to this article

    http://www.dominicantoday.com/dr/tec...count-services

it is possible to transfer PayPal funds to a Banco Popular account and then withdraw cash.

Anyone successfully done this (transfered from PayPal to Banco Popular)?
If yes, how much fees in total to compare to Western Union?

If this works, good night to Western Union.
