Looking to save some money, I am going to take the bus from Santiago to Sosua when I fly in.

I can get a taxi from the Airport to the Bus Station, if I just say "Caribe Tours Bus" they'll know where to take me, probably?

How much should my taxi be?

And then once I am at the Bus station, how am I going to know what bus to get on? I'll be getting there about 6-7pm.

I know there is a website, with the schedule, but my current offshore satellite internet does not work so hot.

caribe tours leave to sosua at 30 minutes past the hour, every hour. the last bus is at 8:30 and costs 160 pesos. tell the driver to take you to the main CT station. it's in a safer area and there are more buses leaving for sosua from there.
cannot help with taxi prices, sorry.

Cool, thanks.

Would "estation principal de caribe tours" do it?

Do I pay the bus driver the 160 pesos, or have to get a ticket somewhere?

You get the ticket at the bus terminal. Also across the street is Metro. They go to the center of Sosua. But Caribe Tours has more departures, and Metro is nicer.

Taxi should be about the equivalent of 15-20 US dollars, but I am really not sure of the price. Maybe someone knows.

Taxi is gonna be 700 Pesos from Airport to Metro, or Caribe, same street.. ( the other way round is 500 to 600 depending on who you get)
they first try for $25 USD, then $20.. just insist that you are paying no more than 700
Used to be 450 but it went up and never came down.. its no biggie ,but it Irks me how they try to squeeze us Gringos fresh off the plane and flush with cash...

Here is what I do.. instead of dealing with the Taxi Mafia guys standing around who act like they doing you a favor
.. LOOK for somebody who is dropping people off, a Taxi guy ,it cant be anyone but a legit taxi.
Then walk right up to him when he is finished with his drop off and say " My friend, remember me?"...
He will either go along with it or ask the Taxi mafia for their OK..
You just now saved him a LOT of time waiting his turn in the QUEUE.. so he will be delighted to take you for 700 pesos. maybe less. Ive done this a # of times.
have fun, i love messing with them dudes. cuz they sure as heck mess with us.

He was advised to go to the main Caribe Tours station, which is the second station coming from the Santiago airport. Metro is across the street from the first Caribe Tour station.

Let's not get the OP confused peeps. The OP wants to go to the Caribe Tours bus depot on Calle Maim?n which is NOT the main terminal in Santiago.

If I am not mistaken the number of buses going to Sosua are the same for both stations. The bus leaves Santo Domingo. Stops at the Maim?n station first then proceeds to the main station.

I just paid 1000 pesos from the bus station to the airport for a taxi, but on the way in got a publico outside the airport for 200 pesos. I think the last bus to Sosua for Caribe Tours is 9:30 and drops you off in Los Charimicos. To catch a publico, leave the station by the entrance slightly downhill and there is a turn around/drop off right by a small cafe.

Different times or different number of buses per day?

I know, I could check it out myself but since you already did. :)

Los Jardines is the depot on Calle Maimon, same street as the Metro bus depot. This bus depot is the closest to the airport and the station the OP should go to. It is NOT the Main Caribe bus depot in Santiago.

The main depot is on the other side of Santiago and my guess an additional 15-20 minute taxi ride with a bit of traffic.

Just my guess and not sure but possibly the 8:30 bus from the main terminal originates from there and is not a bus originating in Santo Domingo.

The buses start their Santiago route at the station on 27 d Febrero(Los Jardines) then continue to the station on 27 de Febrero(Las Colinas) getting more passengers for points North.

The taxi will be cheaper from the Los Jardines terminal.

it's up to the OP. he says he should be arriving at 6-7 pm. i think las colinas would be a better option because the last bus is at a later hour, should he run late.

When asking any taxi to take me from A to B here, I always try to give as simple directions as possible, and having used that bus depot, where Metro and CT are side by side (almost), I?d say to the taxista "a Caribe Tours, al lado de Metro".

Once a taxi I used in Santo Domingo, got confused, as I said "to Metro", and on the way I realized he was about to drop me to the nearest metro (the train, not the bus) station.

At that point I learned how they call the bus: "Metro, la guagua verde grande". Never again problems :)

I guess I read the post meaning he would be getting to the bus depot between 6-7, but yes if he can't make it Las Jardines by 7 PM definitely shoot to the other side of town for the 8:30 bus.

If I were the OP I would have a backup plan for sure...............

in any case, i think we provided plenty of info. if he is early he can try los jardines and hit either CT or metro. if he is running late he is best opting for CT las colinas.

How much do you want to bet he ends up taking a taxi home? I'd look into something like this, and read 18 responses, and decide 'nope', and get into a cab. :) :)
