I was just wondering if chickenpox is as common in DR as in Europe. We live in Europe and our son has chickenpox, my husband says he never had them, neither had his sisters. Where I live that is extremely rare, so I was just wondering if it is different there?

Yes, it is not that effective. My son was vaccinated and still caught a mild case when he was exposed to it during a visit to Europe.

I had it as a child in Europe and then I caught it as an adult in DR with my 4 year old daughter. It went around all the kids at preschool. And so it appeared to be a pretty normal thing.

My husband and his siblings all had chicken pox in SD when they were young. It's there.

I've got some bizarre immunity to it.

I work with poor kids on the North Coast. Last May (one of the seasonal months for chicken pox - don't ask me why) I had about 1/3 of the kids attending our classes come down with chicken pox. Most of the cases I saw - the kids who came to class anyway because their parents didn't care or didn't know what it was - were what I would consider (having taught kindergarten in the US years ago) as mild to moderate.
