re: Spanish 21

Well, for any other gamblers that have criticized the blackjack tables in the D.R. casinos, I have recently been enlightened that the D.R. casinos aren't necessarily skewing the game rules to have an undue advantage. Some of the Atlantic City casinos are now offering Spanish 21, with the rules stated as the game is played in the D.R. I have been guilty of badmouthing the Dominican casinos, when they actually have been using the Spanish form of 21 (blackjack) vs. straight Atlantic City rules. Therefore, I stand corrected as to how the game should be played in the D.R.

Spanish 21?

What are the differences in "spanish 21" other than the sucker "surrender" rule they so graciously offer?

Thanks

Spanish 21 Rules

Yes, there is a "sucker" surrender available when playing Blackjack in the Dominican casinos. Personally, I would never surrender,.. the odds are that you could draw a low card as easily as a facecard. But to comment on the rules differences, I think these are the main variants with Spanish 21:

1. Players total of 21 always beats the dealers total of 21, however if player has 21 in more than two cards and dealer has blackjack, then player will lose wager.

2. Players may bet that either or both of their initial cards will match the Dealer's exposed card. The wager is limited to to the Player's basic wager prior to the first card being dealt for each round. (I observered by Dom. novia making bets, trying to match the Dealer's exposed card, and was initially puzzled by what she was trying to do).

3. If a player is dissatisfied with a non-busted hand, the Player may take back the DOUBLED portion of the bet and forfeit the original wager.

4. On doubling down, you can do this once with 2 or more cards. on any total including after splitting.

Doesn't sound too good

Let's see if I got this straight: Spanish 21 offers you a few house oriented proposition bets and they take the push on 21? If I am reading your post correctly, if I hold 10, 5 and 6 I lose to a 10, 4 7 the dealer holds?

If this is the case, the odds go from about .09% for the house to 2%, a huge loss in the only game where the player has a chance

I Don't think so, Janice

I am no pro, but from my exp and the post from kingofdiced, my 10, 5 and 6 beats dealer on everything except a blackjack.

As for surrender, I have seen many charts on the web that have surrender worked into them for best odds...I believe my 10+5 shows up as a surrender to a dealer showing 6...?

I read wrong

as usual, so a player's 21 beats a dealer 21 (Except BJ?), that push sure helps the player.

As for surrendering to a dealer showing 6 (likely 16) I sincerely hope YOU made a mistake as that is the worst possible hand a dealer can show
