Default I Need Info on Cable TV. Help, You Tech Types

Some of you guys and dolls here are tech wizards, and know how such things work. i need help to expand my understanding of cable tv. last week i went to SD, and the night i stayed there brought one of the most ferocious thunderstorms i have ever experienced. in all my many years, i have never seen lightning and thunder like that. i thought i might never make it out alive. yet, the tv worked.

in POP, as soon as there is the most insignificant of overcasts, the sign comes on the screen..NO HAY SENAL. i need someone to explain why POP has such sh1tty tv service. i know there is a good explanation. i just do not know what it is.

I would assume that the cable company in PP is getting the signals from either Direct TV or Dish network. Both of those cannot stand the weather. Regular cable is underground, but in the DR most of these small cable companies pirate the signal from Direct TV or Dish. Claro has underground cables in many places and weather does not affect the signal.

We are in La Capital, you are in "monte y culebras". That should explain it...

True, it was lightning like crazy yet all channels on Tricom Smartbox were up and running... the power did not go nor the Internet...

    Is it cable or satellite?

My services has always been with Claro Cable TV, I hate satellite services due to the same. Weather has great effect even if the dish is perfectly aligned/installed.

The signal into your cable company is coming via satellite and they in turn send it out to you via cable. As such weather can affect the quality of the signal from the satellite and thus the picture quality available on your TV.

In Sabaneta, with Delancer, I would lose some channels during bad weather. Mostly the major American channels... I just wait and flip to another channel... Hé, what can I do ???

I had to chime in.....has anyone seen the Gaspar Hernandez channel? I forget the exact # of the channel.

They have pirated movies that are still in the theaters playing!

    Agree with these posts.
Tricom/Claro with fiber-optic cable are pretty reliable.
The other providers like Cablenet Dominicana use stolen(?) signals from Dish and others..

I have all three for different reasons...

since you are at it, ask yourself, why is it that a national level tv show of jose greasyhair gutierrez looks like it is shot with a potato. you'd see better quality picture on a home made 80's porn video from kazakhstan.
