The last time I took Spanish in school we had a "universal" picture book. About 150 pages with numbered pictures of different groups of words.. Then there was an online key you could download in any language for the vocabulary lists.

I started on my last trip making up flash cards out of index cards cut in half. I notch the upper right corner of the English side and then I can easily sort and orient them when they get shuffled.

Odd to teach it and discover "Choose" and "Shoes" are very similar sounding in Spanish..
