I just noticed today that some poster already made it to the silver category, there's somebody with 120+ posts! I am barely above 50. I guess I am not opinionated enough.

How about this? post your opinion on any subject, that will raise your count by one and probably pi** off Master Robert for misusing his board. A win-win situation, isn't it? :D

My very own completely useless opinion:

Rice is better than potatoes. Potatoes are for little old men with no teeth and sick people. I am glad I was born in DR where people eat rice.

Thank you, I'll ve here all ze veek...<IMG src="http://www.sassiessite.f2s.com/images/Smilies/nar.gif">

Naw, what it is, the wife and grand kids are away for a while. I have a little free time at this time of the year. Me and Doug haven't got lives, like you : Young, beautiful, single.....

So I keep peeking in here and ooze opinions on everything from Almonds to zuchini(sp?)

Besides, being a Source of Wonderful, if Useless, Knowledge, does have its responsibilities, you know. I have to read the papers, find jokes, learn how to make smilies and so forth, all from a very small mind....Its work!

BTW, your post on DR education was a magnificent vent!!

What are Boogers

Boogers are mucus (myoo-kuss). Mucus is the thin, slippery material that is found inside your nose. Many people call mucus snot. Your nose makes nearly a cupful of snot every day. Snot is produced by the mucous membranes in the nose.

Snot works by trapping the particles and keeping them in the nose. When the particles and dried-out mucus clump together, you're left with a booger!

Boogers can be squishy and slimy or tough and crumbly. In fact, boogers are a sign that your nose is working properly

Re: What are Boogers

Thank you for that very "specific" explanation!

By the way, did I tell you, when you get to SILVER you can have your own tag line. Just drop me an email and I will change it from silver to whatever you want (with in reason).

The Big Apple

This name for New York City was originally horse-racing slang that made its way into jazz lingo and eventually into the vernacular.

The term dates to 1921 and is a reference to the race courses in and around New York City. These were the big money courses, and the "apple" is associated with a prize, something desireable.

By the late 1920s, the term had been adopted by jazz musicians and generalized to the city as a whole.

What is a gringo???

GRINGO

This term for white, English-speaking Americans has an interesting story attached to it. Unfortunately, like so many of the interesting stories recounted, this one is not true.

The story goes that the name originated during the 1846-48 Mexican-American War. Supposedly, Yankee soldiers were fond of singing a song, based on a Robert Burns poem, which was popular at the time, the refrain of which went "Green grow the rushes, O." (Alternate versions of the tale give it as "Green grow the lilacs.") The Mexicans, probably as tired of hearing the song as you are of the latest Top-40 hit, began calling the Americans "green grows," which eventually became gringos.

While the earliest English-language usage is from the 1840s, the earliest use of gringo in Spanish is far older than the Mexican-American War or Bolivar's 1819 liberation campaign. According to Rawson, it appears in the Diccionario Castellano in 1787. That dictionary says that it was used in Malaga to refer to anyone who spoke Spanish badly, and in Madrid in reference to the Irish. Gringo probably comes from the Spanish griego, or "Greek." So it is akin to the phrase "it's Greek to me"

Uncle Sam

The most famous image of Uncle Sam is from James Montgomery Flag's WWI recruiting poster. Uncle Sam predates Flag's poster by over a century and is the product of a different war.

Legend has it that the name derives from a real man. Samuel Wilson, so goes the legend, was a meat inspector in the service of the federal government whose task it was to approve the quality of meat bought by the army. Workers handling barrels of meat stenciled with "US" questioned what the cryptic phrase was. The joke was that it stood for Uncle Sam. There is unfortunately, is no evidence to support the story.

The exact origin is lost in history, but it undoubtedly arose as a joke on the paternal nature of the government.

Just another Redneck

Redneck dates to 1830, when it was first used to denote the Presbyterians of Fayetteville.

There is also a tale in which it referred to striking coal miners who wore red bandannas as a means of group identification. This is unlikely due to what we know of its origin.

Most likely came from the term , the Afrikaans Rooinek, which literally means redneck, it is a disparaging term the Boers used to apply to the British and later anyone who became associated with any European immigrant to South Africa and widely used by those in DR in 2002.

The Canadian courts just upheld parent's right to physically punish their children "within reason". Parents must only use their hands to punish children. I am against physical punishment in children. In adults however it could be US$500.00/hour.

So I've heard
