A Dominican acquaintance is driving me to Santo Domingo and back as I need to run a quick errand. Any idea what would be fair to pay her to cover gas and her time?
Many thanks!

Fill up her tank with gas and buy her lunch at a nice restaurant.

I pay the family taxi driver 4500 pesos from Santiago to Santo Domingo and back if that helps in your calculations.

I don't know at first I thought not bad but then I thought the espinol bus with ac and Wifi is only 300 dop.
Some days I am so frugal here and other I wast like a fool .

I would pay her total gas for the trip plus 1000 for her for her time, assuming it isn't going to be a really long day. But if you can take the bus, it is always the waaaay cheaper option and comfortable!

Welcome to my world. We'll walk two miles in the hot sun to a restaurant instead of taking a 50 peso bus and then drop 3000 pesos on salads and Presidente.

Get her to take you than tell her afterwards you are short on cash. Insist on paying her in two weeks when you receive your next
paycheck then dodge her for about another month until she shows up demanding her money :cheeky:

Haha!!! Nope, not my style. Wasn't raised that way. ;-)
I usually take the bus but she offered, and I want to compensate her fairly. I think the worst thing that could happen to me, after this wretched year, would be picking up these Dominican bad habits.
Ah well, live and learn, and on to greener pastures!!!

La Romana to SD is 220 km. round trip.

Gasoline is 3.80 a gallon.

At 15 mpg they'll consume 15 gallons.

So yeah, about 2000 pesos in fuel.

3000 would be a bargain and a half.
