Two arrested in transport mafia killings

On Friday, 27 November 2015, Judge Honorio Suzana of the National District ordered pretrial detention for transport union leader Arsenio Quevedo, who was arrested on Wednesday, 25 November when he visited the Police several hours after his home was searched and his wife arrested. He is accusing Attorney General Francisco Dominguez and legislator and rival transport union leader Juan Hubieres of engaging in politically motivated persecution as well as a bid for control of bus routes. Danilo Octavio Reynoso Recio was also arrested, accused of complicity in the murder of several drivers from rival transport unions.

The Attorney General office says that it has obtained a video that helped identify Danilo Octavio Reynososo (alias Danilo el Prieto), Amaurys Cabrera Martinez and fugitive Felix Lora de Jesus as those responsible the shooting that killed drivers Overnys Guerrero (Orbi or Limpiabotas) and Angel Javier (Mayimbu).

The prosecutors say that Lora de Jesus left the country to evade justice, with the help of Pedro Brand councilor Erickson de los Santos, also accused in the contract-killing case.

Arsenio Quevedo is also accused of laundering the monthly fuel subsidies that his transport union receives from the Medina administration. He is also charged with leading a ring of hit men that the Police allege took part in the killings.

Quevedo maintains his innocence and states that the prosecutors do not have a case. National District prosecutor Jenny Berenice Reynoso prepared the case against him. Both Quevedo and Reynoso were sent to jail at the Higuey New Model Jail.
