18 Immigration inspectors nabbed in drug and people trafficking
Santo Domingo.- 18 Immigration Agency (DGM) inspectors were arrested and escorted in handcuffs from agency headquarters Thursday morning on an investigation into alleged trafficking in persons and drugs in airports and ports.
Quoting a source, elnacional.com.do said the inspectors work in several airports and ports in the country, and among those arrested figures the US embassy and Immigration liaison.
?It was learned that the arrests came after a visit by an influential official of the US Embassy to Immigration director Ruben Paulino, who confirmed that inspectors are being investigated, and we suspect a network which accompanied the people,? the outlet said, quoting the source.
It adds that the inspectors work in Las Americas, Punta Cana, Santiago and Puerto Plata airports, whereas the others are assigned to Haina and Caucedo ports.
