I bought a sofabed from a friend in the Capital, and now I have to figure out how to move this thing from there to Sosua.

So far the options are:

1.- A shipping company;
2- Caribe;
3.- Driving there myself with friends who are saints.

I am sure someone here has the definitive answer(s). Many thanks!

I use a local guy with a truck....
I just pay him what we agree and , voila, it arrives.

I had a truckload at Ilumel..... he was at the warehouse at opening and to me before noon.
A real truckload.

Just ask around - they're all buscandoing dinero about now

You can give Apolo Taxi a call. They have a "moving" division. Probably won't be the cheapest cause that is one long haul. Easily eight to nine hour day round trip. Or if your friend lives in an apartment building just ask concierge, they can perform miracles.

I would go with the Saints with a truck. Drive down the night before and leave the next morning - drive during daylight.

Google up Transporte Blanco. I've never used them but a few people I know have and were satisfied with the service.

This doesn't solve your problem but worth noting. A few weeks ago we were having lunch at El Choco and next door there was an abandoned three seater couch. A guagua stopped two passengers scrounged up some flimsy rope strapped the couch over the top of the all ready well occupied guagua and off to the east they headed. We lingered a bit in case couch parts went flying but apparently it got to its new home. Sorry ,no photos but a strong memory to reinforce the where there's a will there's a way philosophy that thrives here. Good luck!

Check with the bus freight service. I've seen other large furniture shipped by them. There's a lot of room in those cargo holds.

Thanks to one and all! Some very good suggestions in there. Maybe I'll have a DR-1 party and you can all come and sit on my new couch!

transporte blanco does a trip from SD to the NC every day. the only issue may be with space available on their truck. they have it packed nicely so that they can stop in every city on the way and deliver to businesses and people. admittedly i have only seen them do it with smaller packages, maybe a size of a small stove at best. but you never know until you ask.
