Another thread has evolved into a discussion of some DR delicacies for which specific towns or regions are known for. The list includes the pasteles en hoja from San Cristobal, the tender-coconut dulces de paya (Bani), the mabis from El Seibo, dulces and oranges from Higuey, etc.

You may be able to find many such items (possibly even pastel en hoja) at a small family-run store chain called Cosas del Pa?s (things from this country) which are currently found at several big shopping centers in SD, and at the San Juan mall in the Punta Cana area (see their website).
