Any
body got advice for this? Our initial enquiries tell us we have to have a shop or other small business when obviously we only have a house.

Where we do our own health insurance quoted us rds 6000 a month, which is daft because we pay him rds5000 to work.
We look forward to getting some bright ideas.

I go through Universal Seguro and the amount is roughly 9000 pesos every six months ,that is only for the employee and not for the family

we pay some & they pay some....

yes, we give it.
Our couple is a youngish husband/wife team.
He - 6 days a week , she in the house 3 days.

It means a lot to them and isn't that big a load for us.
I do not have exact figures at hand.
Without the insurance , you wind up lending for medical care....
pick your poison........

Some years we paid for our domestic worker (private House), working 5,5 days/week,
health insurance with Company Humano, last quote 2010 was 1,370,00 RD$/month. Guess now it is
more expensive, Humano increased meanwhile. (For this I for myself changed to PALIC, works good).
Our worker was asking some years ago than for the free insurance for Dominicans > they accepted him.
Experience of our worker: insurance works good, with Docs and ambulant in hospital for special check up.

Who said the word comes from serf? Not me. I can't imagine seeing a job ad for a servant these days, unless it was for royalty or similar. Domestic helper? Domestic assistant? Cleaner?

just middle class santisation of english just as some people can not say he died, but he passed away . . To call my housemaid a staff member seems wrong to my ears but as you know I am old and raised in England , where my home had a servants wing .But each to their own as the word is less important than how they are treated .
