Rum for sipping... not guzzling

Brandy , Armagnac, etc left me a while ago.
In my latter years, I have taken to sipping a rum as a digestif .

No more Cuba Libras during the day, an easy tipple for me...........beer & wine.
Nonetheless, a little sip after dinner makes the pillow softer some days.

I have long been a lover of Zacapa (23 yr old)
It has been my 'Go To' rum..... not cheap

Lately, I have become adventurous.... perhaps suicidal.... in trying new ones.

Barcelo Imperial - nope

I got looped into a bottle of UNIQ XO..... 500ml for 3,000 pesos
A malt rum.... suckered by the $$$ I guess.
Not bad but still missing, IMO

Always being a pigeon for price, I ran across a deal at Nacional........

Brugal Leyenda... on sale for 900 pesos

EXCELLENT !!!!!
Knocks the socks off the others, for me.

I have tested it - blind tests after dinner, men & women
All concur.

Give it a try...

You won't be disappointed.

Sweet, smooth.....delicious

I managed to coax my local man down a bit.
I see it many places for 1,000 (700ml)
Still, a long way from my 3,000 for 500ml.....

I avoid the word 'Cheap'
but I am 'Value Conscious' .....

and made right here in RD.... as is the UNIQ

I think I'll try it with ice cream..... heated a bit

or bananas flambe

Captain Morgan dark is my go to rum. Just put a nipple on it and pass me the bottle. I refer to it as my liquid Viagra. Also enjoy the over proofs, London Dock, Pussars Navy rum. Love a hot toddy before retiring. To hot here for that. Maybe someone can come up with a Frio Toddy.

El Dorado 15 years & Zacapa 23 years are my preferred choices by far. Brugal Leyenda is decent choice too.

When it comes to rum for mixed drinks, I have to put Cavalier (from Antigua) way on top of any list........goes well with Soca and Calypso sounds. Barcel? has the better rums for mixed drinks in this country imo. I loathe mixed drinks with excess Brugal Anejo which unfortunately is the choice of many bars.

Brugal Blanco is one of the better white rums imo, and when living in the campo it was the norm to drink this neat on those days out, often by the 'rio' cooking.

That's more where I'm at ju10.... the older rums....
rum is such a personal thing with all the different tastes.

Like sweet dv8.... who finds Leyenda too sweet.....

You might try a sniff of that UNIQ XO I mentioned.... a malt rum, made in SD
\
Mixed cocktails are a thing of the past for me most days.

But when I did .... I made margaritas with a good rum - shunned the tequila

Not tried this one personally but it is listed on a site where Zacapa is considered number 1

#4 of 10 Best Rum Labels Vizcaya Rum Vizcaya, Dominican Republic

#4 of 10 Best Rum Labels of 2015 - Caribbean climates cultivate an ecstatic delicacy in the form of Vizcaya Rum. This is a brand worthy of the kings and gods. With a noble Cuban heritage, these exotic liquors are rich with decadence and rife with sensory pleasures. Their roots trace back to Havana in the 19th century, but the operation soon migrated to South America. This move brought the renowned rum masters closer to their glorious sugar cane crops. As a result, the potently dynamic blends now hail from the legendary Dominican Republic. If you want to taste tropical exoticism that never ends, then Vizcaya is your only option!

What price , ju10 ??
do you know?

No but....

If you 'google' you can find it for 40US in USA. Probably available in Dufry at airports.......SDQ likely as they have a selection of lesser known rums on display on the Terminal A side.

I have found that the best outlet for fine Caribbean rum is at St Martin airport...SXM....you can come across some of the very best from the Caribbean and especially find some pricey and vintage rums from Martinique (Rhum Agricoles) in the various outlets.
