Need some advice. I'm on the north coast. Would like an MRI. I hear Puerto Plata is ok. Santiago better. Anyone have opinions? I had cancer 5 years ago. Looking for torso scan. Want to do for piece of mind.

Thanks to those with serious replies

Santiago has Plenty Options, i myself have used the Images Center of the Corominas Clinic but there are many more, some on the clinics like the HOMS or Union Medica and some like the CRESA that run non related to them.

CMC in Sosua has MRI and decent technicians, as well as competent doctors to review results. However, if you are looking for the hospital of record on the island, I would say go to HOMS in Santiago. It's a Hogwarts maze, but if you have decent Spanish and/or a fluent speaker to accompany you, OK insurance, and the commitment to many appointments, I recommend HOMS.

I did an MRI for my knee at Clinica Abreu en Sto Dgo. Everything smooth, but then I don't have any other experience to compare it to.

I too would recommend HOMS. They also have a large Cancer center there attached to the hospital

I have had an MRI at CMC. The technician was very professional and I was happy to know this technology was readily available on the North Coast.

My wife just had another MRI at CMC yesterday and I will always suggest to people to go to Santiago if you can and def if it could be serious. The difference in quality is HUGE! If we could have gone to Santiago 2 days ago we would have but limited options at 3 am and it is better than the GH public hospital MOPC took her too!
This time I am not leaving her side at CMC!

Man I am lucky to be alive...our car broke down and I pulled over to the side of the road at about 1 am and while I was looking under my trunk I thought at that moment I should check to see if any cars were coming. Well yup one was coming at 100 km and was obviously drunk so I ran out of the way and watched him hit my car with my wife in it. That was the worst thing I ever experienced. She thought I was killed and I thought she was dead in the car. Check my FB for the pics!! CRAZY!!

The big clinics can be corporate mazes. I need regular scans, and I've used CRESA in SG since it opened 20+ (?) years ago.
1.5 Tesla. Simple procedures. See Dra. Garcia.

herley, you're, like, the most accident prone person ever. it's a good thing i know your name and a face so i have you covered in case they misspell it on detral del rumor website :cheeky:

as far as MRI, i don't think the location matters that much but it's better to use a good specialist in santiago to look at the images and review them properly before giving an opinion. so: take the test anywhere you feel comfortable but have it looked at by the trusted specialist.

Anyone can give the MRI, the whole test is based on the Physician reading and interpreting it, Santiago HOMS or Miami

I also think Cimen is better. If only the waiting room is better than at other locations and the toilets are very clean!

I have had scans at other locations but I go out of my way to go to Cimen because they are very modern, clean, professional. The staff treat you like a person not as another body to process.

I also think the person analyzing the scan is extremely important. I live near Puerto Plata. My various doctors prefer, insist actually, that I return to Santiago to get both the MRI and its analysis. Same for blood tests would you believe! And I dont go to the hospital that the doctor works at... I tell them I go to Cimen and they are pleased.

I wish you best results possible!

It's new world clean, and professional.

Totally new, private industry.....
It's state of the art equipment.

I had melanoma , my US & Cdn doctors both insisted I het a 'Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy'
That involves injecting a dye, tracking it to the nearest node and biopsying that node.
If , positive, track to the next - rmoving each affected node as you go.

Here, they just scanned me... no invasive surgery and way less expense and time.

I was very happy and will go back in a few months to be checked agin.

Enter, get a small injection of fluid, wait an hour or so, lie in the machine for 15-20 minutes.
Done.
Nothing could be simpler... and a brand new facility

i often cannot be bothered to go to santiago for test. i have a sensitive stomach and motion sickness so i find it difficult to drive over an hour to union medica and then spend another hour waiting to have analysis done, all on empty stomach. nope. some tests take a while so going to santiago twice a week for the test and then to get result is again a no no. when
i had a tomography done in POP once and only just before the test i was told i needed to drink a huge bottle of some vile anis water, then wait for my bladder to be near bursting, then go to emergency room to be canalized... all that lasted about 5 hours. at least after all that ordeal i was home within 20 minutes...
