Apparently he lived with his wife and her ex, the father of her kids and now he got killed?
What a surprise. R.I.P.
He probably ran out of money for all the moochers or found out "Cousin Mauricio" was stabbing his wife and was going to leave. Short sighted because now they are guaranteed not to get anymore money.

I know that DV 8 specialises in gory stories in her particular area but sometimes strays to other parts. In la Romana, in the weekend a wealthy young man of about 30 murdered his girlfriend and then committed suicide ..another crime of passion . and like the story of DV8, quite un necessary.

i don't cover deaths of dominicans, usually.

this is a board for foreigners in DR and threads about crimes against one of us generate lots of interest. they are informative.

What you wrote makes little sense. He was living with his wife and her ex under the same roof. It sounds like a bizarre three-party relation, in which all knew what was going on.

Believe what you want man...Somebody was Daddy Warbucks in that situation. The only bizarre part of it was he thought his presence was relished WHEN HE RAN OUT OF MONEY.
NO ONE with common sense gives lodging to the old man.

Seems every week there is another gringo(a) getting murdered. Sad reality of the way things move around here (sometimes). I don?t see what, if anything they can do at this point to stop these crimes from happening over and over again? With more and more foreigners (single or married) traveling to this country every year I think the ?have nots?will continue to prey on the ?haves?and unless someone can somehow wipe out wide spread poverty, drug addiction and corruption in the near future. All of this just sounds like a broken record to me.

we are in DR, thou, and recent safety issues weigh heavily on many people in the country.

still, forget wiping out poverty, this is not possible. forget controlling drugs, this is a lost war too. corruption? eh. maybe a reform of judicial system would help. too often i read about criminals caught by the police for some more spectacular crime who turn out to have a long history of breaking the law. too often the letter of law is not applied as it should be.

what can WE do? take more safety precautions, looks closely at people we let inside our houses and lives, take care of ourselves and of each other.

Is that "on topic"?

Why is it that one cannot report a crime without the usual suspects taking advantage of the opp to bash the DR?
By all indications the victim was involved in some sort of consensual 'love' triangle with his wife and her ex all 3 under the same roof. This makes this a very special scenario, in which one has to presume some type of crime of passion. Zero reason to bash the DR on this one.

And if you are going to bash the DR, then expand your targets to cover all countries where this sort of things happens...which is probably the entire globe.

P.D. And by the way, a Spaniard is NOT a gringo. Some of you seem to go FAR out of your way to use that word, far more than most Dominicans. SICK.

You are romancing the stone Bro. The dude was being used for his resources and when they fell short they tried to beat extra resources out of him. It wasnt consensual as much as the woman wanted her old lover to get in on the con too. I bet the Spaniard wasnt even ****ing that woman. I bet every time he wanted sex she was giving him excuses or trying to rush him through like she had something better to do than service the man thoroughly who is giving her the good life. Or giving him sex once a month or once a year or something odd, like that. How would I know? Because I hear that alot from the foolish guys that marry those women.

Dominican bashing would sound like this: What she wanted was the good life without putting in any effort into maintaining or managing it. Just go get it, come back and give it to me. There is alot of that here, dont you know?

What he should have been wary of was who are these people and how much leverage he had over them. He should have also had in mind that if and when the time came he should be prepared to do them what they eventually did to him.
This could happen anywhere but the Spaniard held all the cards he could have pulled a Derfish at any moment.

I comment on things posted to DR1 by members or mods that are relavant to or happening in the DR. This hardly qualifies
me as a usual suspect? I?ve no reason to hate or bash this country.

I prefer the crime/ lawlessness and chaos over
the orderly over policed state. If you disagree with this, tough ****.. As you and I both know there is nothing anyone can do in the near future to change it. This is one of the main reasons I opted to stay here.

Like it or not, a Spaniard is a gringo. Whenever a gringo gets killed around here its a very touchy feely situation. Its no secret that several people who post regularly on this forum tend to view a gringo(a)s life more valuable than a Dominicans. I have been banned from DR1 in the past for trying to prove this point to others.

If I wanted to bash on forums about other countries I?d be posting on forums revalant to those countries but I think I?d have more fun sitting at a bar with someone like you while laughing in your face :p:p:p

How does it feel to know that you and your comments are seen for what they are.....The collective Dominican society inability to accept personal responsibility for their social problems. Instead of trying to cover it up...Do something different...work with your local community teaching the the idea of helping others to learn to make an investment in those communities.

like the the late Steven Covey quote "give a man a fish feed him for a day, teach him how to fish and feed him for a lifetime

Its very possible that the Spaniard was being conned and that the woman pretended her ex was her 'brother' or 'cousin.' I had a Dominican girlfriend from Moca once and when I went to visit there was always her 'brother' hanging around. When we got to the Cabana at 2am he was still hanging around, I ended up getting him a room next door because he wouldn't leave. I found it a bit odd at the time.

I only found out years later that it was her boyfriend.
