Imminent visitors have asked me where they can dance bachata in Puerto Plata. My days of frequenting dance-halls are long gone and my memory is fast following them, but:
My main spot was La Canita, but that has long since closed.
There were two places in 30 de Marzo: Plaza Caribe(?) and El Caball?n(?)
There was Orion, just off Francisco Caamano, but more international music there.
For a more "colorful" experience there was El Consulador and adjacent bars (all of which opened and closed, or changed their names, with great frequency) but the "dance-floors" were minute.
The Haitian place (Kakaobaka?) by the Hospital is not only closed but physically demolished.
There is El Furgon along Luis Ginebra, which I understand is more for younger middle-class Dominicans?
Rancho Tipico out towards the Free Zone only opened when they felt like it, which was rarely when I visited.
Someone suggested Club Kviar at Costa Dorada, but I suspect they play mostly international music and little bachata?
I do not know how many of these places still exist and play bachata. My friends are neither wimps nor snobs, are streetwise, and speak enough Spanish for this purpose.
