Do any others have a hard time living here and keeping up with tarnished silver jewelry? I've tried many over the counter cleaning products with nothing very successful until today....soak jewelry in ketchup for 15 minutes...wash in warm soapy water, rinse, wipe dry and voila' shiny silver again!

Homemade Jewelry Cleaner

Mix together:

2 tablespoons liquid hand soap

1 cup water

1/2 teaspoon ammonia.

Add a drop of food coloring to make it look just like the store-bought cleaners.
Store in a clean glass jar.

To Use:

Briefly soak jewelry in the cleaner and rinse with water.
Pat dry with soft cloth.
Can use on gold, silver, costume jewelry.

Do not use on opal or other porous stones.

A used toothbrush can help remove buildup in grooves corners etc.

To slowdown the tarnishing of copper/silver which begins again the instant you finish cleaning the item, dunk in a small amount of olive oil and wipe off excess with an absorbent cloth or paper towel.

I opted to buy a decent quality ultrasonic bath a few years ago and that does an amazing job with just a button push. Really great for the buildup of grime on the nose supports on eyeglasses
