I purchased some very beautiful land that fronts onto some cliffs and the ocean from an individual. An idyllic property, perfect in every way. My land’s front boundary was 60 meters from the coast. I paid premium prices for this land due to it being ' front row’.
Do you know what this individual did??? He altered the 60 meter rule via his council acquaintances / council to 30 meters from the coast. Effectively creating a strip of land for himself in front of my land.

When my lawyer protested he said 'my family my family’..."I will not build on this land and block anyone's view etc etc’.

Lies!!!! I called complete BS on that. He had effectively stolen my view, stolen my money paid as a premium, and lowered the value of my land without a single thought for me.
My lawyer warned him that these people have money and they will not allow this situation to remain. The fact is, his land was approved by the land court, and there was nothing I could do....or so i was advised. Other than legal recourse which would take years with high prospects of me losing. All negotiations to have him alter his new land holdings failed.

So i thought to myself…’how can i ***** with him???? ’hmmmmmm it is true, I do have money, more than him… a lot more’… ‘I know what ill do, Ill instruct my lawyer to shove this following message in his ***. Which is pretty much what i said to my lawyer please shove this in his Dominican ***
I will sue you; I know i will never win; I can afford to keep this in the courts and you will have to hire a lawyer to fend off my every legal attack. I have 3 properties * 3 levels of court = 9 separate court cases he will have to defend and fund. I was prepared to spend this money too- it wasn't a bluff. I knew he could never do that and that this would crush him.
I will keep this matter in the courts for 10 years - as it makes its way to the supreme court.
Additionally, all of your remaining land which amounts to some 200000 meters which is directly connected to the front strip of land in question will now be placed under a lien for 10 years, or until i decide to remove it from around your neck. You will not be able to sell 1 sq meters of this land until we reach the supreme court and ‘yes’ …I do have the money, and yes i will do it.
Im not so sure she did that…ill check the bill from her to see if she carried out my request.
Well inside 2 weeks this matter was resolved. My land will be moved under supervision by my hired surveyor and lawyer.
You know it felt good to be able to play hardball, to flex my financial muscle and over power this sneaky SOB. I’d only ever heard of rich powerful people that utilized their wealth and power inappropriately and for their own gain…ideologically speaking, I despised people like this. However when I flexed my economic power and saw him cave in…well it left me in a enlightened state you might say. POWER…I understand now why people thirst for it, because from time to time you may need to use it to get what is rightfully yours.

Good for you. My wife and I have lost half of our life savings to a so called medical doctor. He had his own doctors office, hardware store and much more.
We had become friends with his mother and her side of the family for years. He left POP with our money and lots of others as well.
I talked to a lawyer and was told you will end up throwing good money after bad and will not get your money back. Its best left alone. So we have,
cause we don;t have a lot left. So again, good for you.

I applaud you Roger, as one who has lived and worked here since 2007 and had many dealings with dishonest Dominicans there is only one way to deal with them and that is with brute force, it's the only thing they respect and understand. Any sign of weakness and they attack and exploit. Great Job!!!!

you reminded me of a great polish ad for an insurance company:

the young guy says: you have to have imagination.... grandpa!
the old guy responds with: you have to have imagination... AND money...

good job, man.

Well done Roger. However blowing ones economical trumpet on this forum will win you no friends here.

It's a socialist board. There are those that are scraping around for a living, describe in great detail and many are sympathetic. And there are those that are a little well off and make the grave mistake of publishing it, are met with the wrath of the aforementioned.

I didn't quite catch what he did to you. He broke a sixty meter rule? That is what I had problems with. He changed the paperwork while you were looking the other direction? Or what?

Over the years that I have been coming here (25+) I have been told by a number of people
that the 60 meter rule can only be circumvented by an order from the president.
Is this true, or is it just another story to be passed down from expat to expat?

Windy: I deleted yours and others as well.

So he tooted his own horn a bit, we need to chastise the OP because of that?
