Sorry, yet another Edenorte question for those who have experience

We all know that Edenorte stuff is a challenge and I knew that the installation of meters here was bad news BUT today I went to pay and finish the old contract and start the new. Old contract totally acceptable with standing charge and other KwH charged. New contract 315 KwH for only 13 days charged at RDS 11.49 so bill is RDS 3679.01 for only 13 days which is really scary - can anyone offer some advice please?

What kind of advice are you looking for? I agree it's a scary number, time to realllyyyy monitor your usage and make certain no one taps in. Pool pump uses a lot.

Best of luck to you, it's going to be a massive adjustment going from fixed to actual, I really feel for you

i suggest you contact them ASAP. take notes of all names of people you talk to and case numbers they give you.
i am looking at our february bill, 331 kWh. it is broken down to:
137.25 cargo fijo, 888.00 (200 kWh x 4.44 pesos), 697.00 (100 kWh x 6.97), 336.66 (31 kWh x 10.86). total of 2,058.91.

they should not be charging you this rate for lower kWh usage.

What EdeNorte appears to have done is that they combined the "TOTAL" KwH used for the month.

First charge was with the old system.
Second charge with the new system (13 days).

The two together was over 300 KwH, the new meter system - 315 KwH for 13 days charged at RD $11.49 per KW.

What was your usage (charge) for the first part of that month before the meter was installed?

Note: Here in Santiago, Kw's over 300 are charged at RD $10.86

The other charges are exactly as DV8 posted.

Looking more closely at the bills, I have made some other discoveries. Firstly the 'old' fixed rate contract is for the billing period 19/03/2016 - 19/04/2016 = 31 days and the 'new' contract is for billing period 02/04/2016 (date new contract signed but meter not installed until 11/04/2016) - 15/04/2016 = 13 days so there is overlap and also there is no way I could have used 315 KwH from 11/04/2016 to 15/04/2016!

The 'old' fixed contract bill shows the following for the 31 days: Total of 213 Kwh. Cargo fijo RD$ 137.25, Energia 200 Kwh x RD$ 4.44 = RD$ 888, 13 Kwh x RD$ 6.97 = RD$ 90.61 so Total of RD$ 1115.86.

A telephone call to them this morning has revealed that they have classified my home as a business!!!!

When I moved back here in 2010 and started renting a place edesur wanted to charge me for the electricity used from the termination of the former contract in October 2009 until the start of my contract in February 2010. I went to their office and asked them why they thought I should pay for that. The answer was: someone has to pay for it. I answered: it isn't me. I had to insist and talk to a supervisor but in the end they removed the charge.

I'm not sure if they are crooks or idiots.

I assume Edenorte operates pretty much as Edeeste. I paid around 3,500 pesos a month, which I found acceptable. I was away one full month and the bill was up to 8,500, everything turned off except the fridge. The meter is locked in no one can hook up to my line. We had PROTECOM checking up and they found all ok, nothing wrong. The monthly is now down to around 2,400 pesos. My conclusion is Ede...wherever they are, have no control.
