I hope they come out with one soon. They had 2,000 notes when peso was 18-1, so why not a 5,000 note when it's 46-1 ?

Excellent idea.. I'm not sure what the rest are complaining about, I get the "the blue" 2000 peso note cashed all the time no problems.. I guess if one is living in a shantytown its more problematic.. The tourist zones no problems cashing 1000, 2000, and 5000 would be most welcomed... we need a bigger bill...

Shantytown is probably 90% of the island............
5000 peso notes will never happen.........
Would be great for drug dealers thou, smaller suitcase needed.......

A larger bill would assist two of the DR's major industries, drug-trafficking and money-laundering.

We use to have a $1000 bill in Canada, "the purple"... it was a nice bill...
which brings me to a side question..
why doesn't DR money have any slang terms.. example, a "Benjamin Franklin" $US100 or a "saw buck" $US10
A Canadian $100 is often referred to a "brownie".... The peso must have some words associated with it?

Dominicans do have slang terms for the 2000 note..........

1. So that's what one looks like.......
2. I have to work 2 weeks for one of those.....
3. Who do I have to kill.......
4. Nobody wants to cash this.......

There seems to be a constant shortage of 20 and 50 peso notes which are often tattered. I'd rather they fix that first. Less than five percent of the 20s I see are the new ones with the clear window and I can't remember the last time I saw a new 50.

Aside from our twice a month shopping at Iberia, almost all of our purchases are in 100 peso notes or smaller. I don't use ATMs that dispense 1000 peso notes.

Lots of ATM's here in SD dispense 1000rd notes. Don't believe a 5000rd note would make it, cant get change for 1000 lot of the time

You wonder where all the 2000 peso bills are? Go to any pelea de gallos and they are stacked all around the arena.
P.S Nobody is stealing anything at the gallos arena

I agree. Only a few places will even accept a 2000 peso bill now. I can't imagine what problems a 5000 peso bill would present.

The 50 peso bills tend to be dirty. I shudder to think where they have been. They are very handy.

Its interesting you should bring that up "dirty money"... I have also noticed the 50's and 100's many times completely "soiled" when getting change from a caja chica... I always try to get them to give me CLEAN cambio.. I have never seen dirtier soiled bills like you do in the DR... Wash your hands..

I use all the time from the ATM 500 pesos bills. They are the best for me. Easy to change and no stress.
