What's the best TV configuration for entertainment? What is the setup you guys are using? I have a friend that's has Claro's basic package( I guess for local channels), a parabola for U.S. channels, and maybe a Netflix? Recommendations anyone? I would like my NYC channels and programs. Thanks!

I have regular cable with DeLancer... I have all the regular US channels, ABC, NBC, CBS, TNT, USA, DISCOVERY, ANIMAL PLANET, etc... plus a couple movie only channels....

So far, I don't need more than that... But anyone can also take extra channels in packages at 100 pesos per month per package. Plain and simple for me.

And FYI, all the traditional "network" channels (ABC, NBC,CBS, and Fox) that we get at my place in Sosua via DeLancer are the NYC based stations (WABC, etc......I like keeping up with the local news from Lori Stokes, Sade B, etc).

Lucky you, Claro in Santo Domingo only has Miami, Florida based news stations. I am from the NYC area and ended up settling for ABC New York streaming news.

Thanks much! Any in HD?

If you want American channels in HD you will have to go with a 'semi-legal' set up from DishNetwork with paid subscription using an US address and two 5 foot dishes w/3 LNB's. Its possible that in Santo Domingo or Santiago you can get some HD programming but I don't know anything about that.

@OP, you purchase HD packages with Claro and depending on the package you get 10, 53, or 60 channels in HD. Santo Domingo Centro, can't speak for other part of SD but imagine it is the same. Some areas have fiber optics for high speed internet. Bottom line is you have to live with what is available in your building.

......and yes, it sucks big time you can't get NYC news channels with Claro in SD

Is it possible to get UK channels, in particular BBC and Sky, in DR (specifically Las Terrenas)? If so, please advise how I do this?

Many thanks,

Rob

If you have at least 2-3MBit internet you can get anything you want. Live TV, sports, movies, etc.etc.

Thanks Bred.

Are you getting those via a website (if so, which one) or a DR-based cable/internet/phone provider?

Android TV boxes. Amazon or eBay. From $30 to a few hundred USD. $50-$80 ones work fine. Most come pre-loaded but need to be updated and configured. Connect internet cable, and HDMI or AV cable to your TV and enjoy totally free. No monthly payments.

https://www.google.com/search?q=android+tv+box and then select "images".

You can PM me for more info. I can tell you what add-ons are up-to-date.

De Lancer / Atlantico cable has several HD channels: ABC, NBC, CBS, ESPN 2, PBS, GOLF plus more. You have to buy the extra package for just a little more. Have had it for years and very happy.

I'm due to arrive in DR around mid-June, so if ok with you, I will get back in touch with you around that time to get some advice on what setup I should go for.

Thanks,

Rob :)

Just get fast internet, and lay your hands on IPTV. The world will be yours.

Silver Cable has NYC-based channels, but so does IPTV.
