What's the typical atm withdrawal limit? My US bank has a partnership with Scotia Bank and there's one near the apartment I'll be at in SD.. Anyone know the typical withdrawal limit?

If your "US Bank" is BofA, there is no longer any relationship, who is your bank?

Depends on the card you use, the ATM you use, the weather and time of day....

But typically, RD5,000 per transaction. I've been to a some that allow RD$10,000 per transaction. How many times you can do it will depend on your home bank.

If you have a card with the last four digits of the card number printed on the back, you can go into the bank and with the card and your passport you can do RD$20,000, from the bank teller.

Scotiabank has a 10,000rd limit. It is my DR bank and it does have a partnership with Barclays (my UK bank) and the website still advises there are other partnerships maybe no longer with boa as other posters have noted.

Frankly the queues at Scotiabank branches for teller withdrawals etc. appear to be much shorter than the other local banks too.

and which way the wind is blowing.

In SD I have used ATMs with a 2,000 limit and as much as a 15,000 limit, so it all depends. Most seem to charge 195 pesos plus you home bank fee if any.

How the times have changed. I remember using my PayPal card and there was a $1 USD fee and zero fee at the la rep dom bank. Days long gone by..............

The National Machine at Super Pola in Bavaro allows 20,000 pesos/day per card. If you have your money in several accounts with ATM access, you can get quite a wad of cash at one visit. There's a guard there, too...

Cant speak to S.D., but upon using a Scotiabank ATM (which you had mentioned using)in Sosua I have been able to withdraw 10K pesos twice in one day, if that's any help to you.

On a side note, you might want to simply inquire with your home bank and state your circumstance.

As others have said, it depends on the location, even within Santo Domingo. There is no recognizable rhyme or reason to why some machines have higher limits than others.

At the Scotia in Las Terrenas I have noticed you can bypass the 200RD$ fee. It sometimes would charge me, sometimes not. Turns out that if you type fast the software 'forgets' about the fee.

It is a once every 90 days thing. New folks come and some old timers get Alzheimer's and we have to go thru it again.

I've also seen the amount limited based on the type of bills loaded (or left) in the machine at the moment of withdrawal. Only a certain number of physical bills will 'fit' when being dispensed. This has happened to me at two different banks on the North Coast. One ATM appeared to only be loaded with RD$200's on several different occasions.

Yep $10,000 pesos twice per business day at Scotia. My bank back home also took a 1.5% fee on top of the 200 pesos Scotia charges per transaction. It adds up.

I can remember doing 20k at Scotia per transaction a year or two back. Doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

we certainly did...

withdrawal amounts vary ...
bank to bank, branch to branch, day to day...

All depends on the cash on hand, usually

RD is a cash society , for the most part
watch the armored trucks float around daily...

this banking system needs cash... unlike the real world where cash is less of a necessity
