Good morning! Does anyone know the dimensions of a typical cement block used for construction in DR? I was told 6" wide, 8" tall, and 12" long, but I'm not sure because blocks used for the same purpose in the U.S. are typically 16" long.

My wife and I are designing a home to build there and I'm just trying to research info on typical construction materials.

I don't think I've ever seen 12", but that doesn't mean somebody didn't make a form for one. Figure on 16"

Width will depend on what it's being used for. You wouldn't use 6" wide for exterior walls.

admittedly, i have seen blocks both smaller and bigger than the ones described above. all depends on what you are building. i have seen smaller blocks used for internal walls, for example.

The standard here for exterior walls is the 6" block which in actuality measures 5.5 inches X 7.5 hi X 15.5 long. In the USA the standard is an 8 : block, but not here.

They typically sell blocks in three different sizes. #4, #6 and #8... I don't know the exact measurements corresponding to the number of block.

By the time you add 1/2 inch of mortar it becomes 5.5 x 8 x 16.

I have laid bricks but never blocks. my job was making the concrete and the mortar.
