according to the official statistics provided by PN, in the first 6 months of this year there were 792 murders in DR, which gives an average of 4 a day.

in another article monchy fadul gives details regarding the most violent provinces of DR: santiago, san cristobal, altagracia and SD.

I seem to remember various people here saying the north coast is extremely dangerous, but from the locations mentioned here, it seems to be relatively safe - at least from the point of view of murders.
