    Courtyard Santo Domingo boasts very functional lobby area
    Guests staying at the Courtyard by Marriott Santo Domingo are now enjoying brand new lobby installations. Yudit Garcia, general manager and Gianell Pena, senior sales manager highlight that the renovations are part of the new business strategy of the hotel. The lobby caters to leisure and business traveler needs with a merge of esthetics, technology, connectivity and functionality. The lobby is a place where guests can work, relax, eat, drink and socialize at their own pace,” explain the hotel officers. “The renovated lobby seeks to generate successful ties with our guests,” she says. The lobby area has a lobby, restaurant, lobby bar and business center combined.
    The Courtyard by Marriott Santo Domingo is centrally located. It is a short distance from the National Theater, Palacio de Bellas Artes and Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, as well as from key government offices. The hotel has 145 rooms and rates include free WiFi access. The hotel also has two meeting rooms for social or business activities, outdoor pool and gym open 24/7.

    New record tourist arrivals for half year
    The Central Bank reports that 3,043,154 tourists visited in the first half of 2016. The non-resident foreigners and Dominicans were 184,391 more than arrivals from January-June 2015, for a 6.5% increase. Of the total, 78.9% were foreign tourists (145,408 passengers) and 21.1% were visiting Dominican residents abroad (38.983 pax).
    The increases are attributed to the healthy US economy. Most tourists come from the United States. Some 61,987 more visitors reportedly came from the United States during the first half of the year.
    Inbound travel from South America is also up for the first half of the year. The Central Bank reports that 37,651 more visitors came from Venezuela (25,060), Colombia (13,527), Uruguay (6,502) and Peru (3,798). Tourist travel from Central America and the Caribbean is also up 19.5%, with significant increases in tourist arrivals from Puerto Rico (6,130), Panama (5,337) and Cuba (4,012).

    Punta Cana International receives 66.5% of all tourists
    Data from the Central Bank reveals that tourists arriving at Punta Cana International Airport made up 66.5% of all foreign tourist arrivals for the first six months of the year. Some 1,773,531 foreign tourists arrived by way of Punta Cana (PUJ) from January to June 2016. Of the total tourist arrivals of 2,665,929, 94.5% said they came for recreational purposes.
    Next in number of foreign tourist arrivals for the first half of the year is Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo, with 450,064 arrivals (16.9%), Puerto Plata with 240,129 arrivals (9%). Santiago’s Cibao airport reported 98,889 tourist arrivals (3.7%), La Romana International Airport reported 58,961 arrivals (2.2%), El Catey International Airport in Samana with 41,053 tourist arrivals (1.5%) and La Isabela (Santo Domingo) with 3,302 arrivals (0.01%).

    CNCO coming to the Dominican Republic
    The big boy quintet CNCO is booked for a performance in the Dominican Republic in August 2016. The exact date and place will be announced.
    The band is described as Latin music’s newest phenomenon. It emerged from Univision’s musical competition, La Banda, which is executive-produced by Simon Cowell’s SYCO Entertainment, the global icon Ricky Martin, Univision Communications Inc., and Saban Brands.
    Band members are 20-year old Christopher Velez (Ecuador), 19-year old Richard Camacho (Dominican Republic), 15-year old Erick Brian Colon (Cuba), 16-year old Joel Pimentel (Mexico) and 18-year old Zabdiel de Jesus (Puerto Rico). Their music is produced by urban musician Wisin and the group is represented by a team lead by Ricky Martin.

    Soon it may be 90%. With extortion's against gringos like this happening all the time maybe the travel agents are correct about staying behind the big security walls
