How Solar Ovens Are Changing Lives In The Dominican Republic
http://pubx.co/MQ9uHW

Not sure if the link will work.

The link worked fine. I once was a part of a volunteer organization which had three different demonstrations of people making and trying out solar ovens. Cardboard box and aluminum foil solar ovens. None of the three could get their creation to actually work. One guy was claiming that he used his in Oregon while camping to boil water for coffee etc... But the one he made for the demo did nothing, nada. If these actually work they will be fine But why do they have to be made inthe USA? Aren't the materials available here?.

Solar ovens really do work. I even ate a meal cooked on similar ones in Honduras during a visit to a project there.

Solar ovens are an economical means of cooking and baking if:

a) One has the time.
b) One does not have a more efficient alternative.
c) One knows how to use a solar oven and understands its limitations.
d) One has the correct type of containers to use in the solar oven.

The bigger the collector flaps the better. As the sun tracks across the sky, the oven needs to be turned to follow the sun. Solar ovens are generally not a "put the item in the oven, go to work and come home to a prepared meal" device like a crockpot.

My brother who has a cabin in the mountains of NC swears by his. Says it gets up to 350 - 400 degrees F. I believe he got it from Real Goods. I think the link is www.realgoods.com

Said it was a bit expensive but has a built in temp control etc.

A/B are the major reasons they are not going to go over big in the Campo, As said its not a crockpot. Tough to cook 3 meals a day on one. Still going to need either the Propane or Fuegon

As lunch finishes, start dinner....
2 meals at a time on the go.

Have you ever seen them juggle their lives?
Piece o' cake , this is.

They cook all day anyway.

The response was that the only distribution of these is through the
Iglesia Evangelica Dominicana (IED) after the training or orientation program.

No retail sales.

Target group is the lower income, poverty sector.
Purely a charity venture.

I am going to hunt up our local IED and get some people signed up.

I got the same message.
It is sort of strange that they pump up the idea and then throw up roadblocks when someone inquires.
They surely have a database of participating churches.
Why not make it easier for people to participate?

I suspect part of the plan , if not the plan, is to pull some people into the church.

I understand the orientation bit - there is a learning curve element to using one.
I have seen them for sale in Gasping Hernandez at Papaterra's

Surely, the freeze dried hippies in Wyoming, Montana etc use them....
they're not new.

Not new....

a story...

I once ran into a know-it-all guy at a garden party.....No Ricky Nelson wasn't there
knew effing everything, this guy.

So , I started asking him a few questions.

We strolled past a sun dial...
I stopped in my tracks and stared........What the hell is that ???, I asked

Aha, a sun dial, he says
How does it work??? My knucklehead self queries.....

So, he explains it in second grade words for me.

I take a sip of my soon to be empty drink and shake my head...
What will they think of next ???............ as I wiggle off to the bar

I can hear him jabbering behind me...
something like - OH no, Roman times... ancient invention....

JERK !!!!
