Punta Cana spared brunt of Matthew
As slow-moving Category 4 Hurricane Matthew heads northwards through the channel between Jamaica, Haiti and Cuba, large parts of the Dominican Republic are bracing themselves for heavy rainstorms, especially on Tuesday, 4 October 2016. Public schools were closed on Monday-Tuesday, 3-4 October 2016 everywhere except the eastern provinces ? including the tourist areas of Samana, Punta Cana and Juan Dolio and La Romana-Bayahibe.

The storm is bringing intense rains and gusty winds to the west side of the island of Hispaniola. Travelers need to check with the airline prior to heading for Dominican airports. *
