So sad. Anahid Avakian and her husband worked so hard to build that business and make the food good and the place fun, with interesting events. My heart goes out to them.

Everyone fire truck on the North Coast was here, but the fire destroyed the place in 10 minutes. They just made sure the timbers were out and not spread. Not their fault, to their credit they were here in 30 minutes, but to late.*

Security probably wouldn't let them in!

30 minutes is about the same as not showing up at all. Whether it's ems responding to a heart attack or a house fire the speed with which you arrive is the key. 30 minutes means you are cooling the ashes. I love 100% concrete construction in the DR

The exact same scenario happened in Bavaro when El Pulpo Culgo burned to the ground...entirely wood and thatch structure that was fanned by the ocean breeze. No water hook-ups there, either and they ran-out of tanker water soon after arrival. Nobody has even thought of rebuilding a restaurant at that spot in over 3 years...the ashes are still present in the beach sand.

There's a restaurant facing that spot for 2 years now. Someone converted the yellow house into a restaurant. Too bad the signage on Av Alemania is so bad.
