A friend of mine has a no-profit corporation in the USA with proceeds benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters. He is wondering about opening a used clothing store in The Dom Rep with proceeds going to charity in the Dom Rep. I know there are restrictions re importing used clothing but are there exceptions for a non-profit corporation?

Altruism is a concept which is widely unrecognized here in the DR. *Many approach it with*skepticism*and mistrust, including the authorities.

I have friends who set up a charitable foundation which I believe gets tax relief so it is possible.

I suggest talking to a good lawyer as I believe the Charity had to jump through some hoops to get its status.
