Thanks to being laid off, I managed to find a telecommuting job where I can deliver value to the global economy from right here in the DR. I get paid in US dollars, but it appears that I can deposit the money in any bank including, say, a Caribbean slush account.

What are the taxes like here? I'm sure this is an FAQ, but a rudimentary search didn't turn up much.

If you're getting paid from the DR and are registered by the company, they deduct the taxes from your pay. If you're getting paid from elsewhere, then felicidades.

Are we talking about working for a company that is not located in the DR? What is your citzenship? I assume you live in the DR full time so if that is the case you would receive an exception on part or all of your income depending on how much you earn. Legally you would still need to file a tax return but probably not pay any tax. There is plenty of info on-line.

Best is doing business with an off-shore Ltd. Not for a hotel/restaurant off course, but for trading the best choice.

I've been working remotely for more than two years now and have never paid local taxes (I think I pay enough with the high purchase tax). If you're an American citizen I will be more worried about the IRS.
