Can you tell me what the words are to the name and words to the National Anthem here are? In spanish and english please...if there are words. And what are some of the patriotic songs here. Everyone knows the ones from America but I just realized I have no idea what they are here.

Hi Jan,
Do a search, some time ago El Jefe posted a pretty good translation of our national anthem. In Spanish it has too many fancy words for someone who's learning the language. As a kid I memorized it and then took me years to understand the words. ;)

Quisqueyanos valientes alzemos
Nuestro canto con viva emoci?n
Y del mundo a la faz ostentemos
Nuestro invicto glorioso pend?n.

There's a longer version, but it's only in the books.

Jan, at 12 noon turn on the radio and they will play the anthem on most stations.

it is easy to sing, has good tempo and might be, along with the marsaillaise (sp?) one of the best national anthems around.

As for other patriotic songs..None that I have ever heard of. Absolutely none.

Of course I think Luna Sobre Jaragua, Compadre Pedro Juan and Amor de Conuco are fine national songs!!

today and tomorrow you will hear the anthem sung many times, since tomorrow os July 4th for the DR.

A rough translation

Quisqueyanos valientes alzemos Brave Quisqueyans, let us raise
Nuestro canto con viva emoci?n Our song in lively emotion,
Y del mundo a la faz ostentemos And show the world
Nuestro invicto glorioso pend?n. Our glorious, undefeated
pendant

Salve el pueblo que intrepido y fuerte Hail the brave and strong
A la guerra a morir se lanz? people
Cuando en b?lico reto de muerte That went to war, faced the
Sus cadenas de esclavo rompi? dare and
Broke slavery's chains

Ningun pueblo ser libre merece No people deserve to be free
Si es esclavo indolente y servil if they are slaves, lazy & servile
Si en su pecho la llama no crece If in their chests the flame that
Que templ? el heroismo viril. tempered this heroism does
grow.

Mas Quisqueya la indomita y brava But Qusiqueya, the idomitable
Siempre altiva la frente alzar? and brave
Que si fuere mil veces esclava will always hold itself high
Otras tantas ser libre sabr?. and if it were to be enslaved
a thousand times,
A thousand times it would be
free.

By the way, the very last line in the long version is

Liberty, liberty Liberty!!

i tried to do it side by side. A little confusing but readable.
