Default Sending money usa to DR monthly, best way

I need to send about $1500 USD monthly from usa to a friend in santiago. He has a popular dollar and peso account.

What is the best way? Cheapest, easiest?

I have a PayPal in the USA and that is what I use in the states, but it appears it does not work in the DR.

The recipient in santiago is not computer literate and does not care too much about fees, more about convenience. He already pays a visit to western union in santiago monthly.

    Thank you in advance.

The cheapest and speediest would be for him to open a US dollar account and you to send bank wires. Cost about $35 US. This way he gets the money in Dollars. Avoiding any currency transactions and other fees.

Can this be done by computer in the USA or is a trip to the bank required? I would prefer to use a bank located in a city where I do not live.

    Thanks!

You would have to ask your bank that question, I really do not know.

What bank do you use? I would love $35. per transaction. BofA charges me at least $45 and Ban Reservas another $15.
It can be done on line with at least B of A, and Wells Fargo ( I am guessing most other banks as well).
Western Union is WAY TOO Expensive.
Wells Fargo has a service (also can be done online AFTER first use) called Remittance, It costs $7.00 U.S. but limit of $1000. U.S. so you would have to do 2 transfers per month. The downside to this is that it will only pay out in Pesos However if you send to BHD they don't rape you on the exchange (The recipient does not have to have an account with BHD)

You can send money by western union, and It can be received in Santiago in USA dollars, no fees to change dollars to pesos..........if you use a bank , you are tied to banking hours...... western union is open more hours than banks, western union is in most all cities in the USA and DR.........if you want to use a different location than your home town, there will be one a few minutes away. the western union in colinas mall in Santiago is 20 feet away from gusman money exchange, last week I received 46.85 pesos per usa dollar......any way it has worked well for me for years........Doc.............
