I am curious . Has any of you expats or locals ever heard
of an insurance company actually paying up for a claim.
I am not talking about health insurance those guys seem to all right.
but Car insurance and theft on house insurance.
Over the passed few weeks i heard that two claims
on car accidents were refused for no good reasons.
I know of the cases up close.
and three cases of brake in. Two store brake ins and one brake in in a privat house.
In all cases police reports were filed.
Condition were fullfilled but not paid.
Actually the additional cost to make a police report was just
un additional loss.
Then I started to think back and I actually cannot remember ever hearing that an insurance company actually paying out.
If this is so it makes absolutly no more sence to pay 25 000
pesos for an all risk insurance on my car . but should only take
the minimum legally required insurance which is a little over a thousand pesos.
What has been your experience ????

Definitely not. There are many reputable insurance companies here. Over the years can testify that the companies pay and the insurance money is well worth it.

You may consider taking out your insurance through a large broker, such as Ros & Asociados or Franco Acra for more pull and action from the brokers. These are located in Santo Domingo.
