My Girlfriend claims her specialist wants her to take

prolactolina
/ cabercoline .5mg tablet size. In a box is 4 tablets and to take 1 tablet 3 * a week. Cost 2500 peso per 4 tablets

. second medication;

flora flex 21 tablets (ethinylestradiol and cyproterone acetate 0.035mg/2mg) , 1 tablet every day
, price 3500 peso

. She has been told to take these medications forever (or until she has had her children) QUESTIONS; 1/ are these prices correct 2/ are generic medications available for these medications, cost
?
. If you are able to help when you provide information the amount of tablets in a similar format to the above details would be very helpful. I can then do the necessary math So can do the math, comparing the generic to the name brand. I think this may cost me now per month for the prolactina = 5800rd plus flora flex 5000 peso for a full 30 day period more or less

. Can someone help?

(she is a Doctor, and in her first year of work, working for free/unpaid la pasaje /12months? she has no insurance and no money);

Do the homework on these meds. This woman does not NEED this medication. She's a doctor as well? Sounds like she's taking you for a ride. A ride for her new Yipeta, which you won't be riding in. Sad, but true. If I am wrong, private message me.

Bro...wake up!

What is Dianette used for?

Severe acne in women that has not responded to treatment with oral antibiotics.
Abnormal hair growth in women as a result of excessive production of male sex hormones (hirsutism).
This medicine will also provide contraception for women taking it for acne or hirsutism, but it should not be used solely as a contraceptive.

Ive been researching this and you may not be going for a ride at all. It seems like from the drugs you listed she has ovulation issues. Which would explain why she wants a drug for hair growth and to control prolactin.

For example although the drugs you listed arent mentioned similar ones are:
http://www.advancedfertility.com/inducovu.htm

But they are much cheaper drugs to help her with that condition.

Good luck to you both.

she was diagnosed with pelivic inflammatory disease. He prolactin is very high. I should have said this at the start. She claims these medicines will preserve the function of her ovaries as they were damaged by the PID. If she doesnt take the medication she will lose the ability to have children

I dont know Bro. PID has nothing to do with prolactin and can be cured with simple antibiotics. But maybe things are bad for her if she was living with that condition for a long time untreated. But I digress I'm not a woman so ill let the ladies chime in.

After purchasing these meds, save the receipt. As time permits, stop into other pharmacies and ask for a quote for a months supply. Always ask for a discount because you are paying in cash. 10% is the norm.

Pharmacists are the ones who should know about generic alternatives, ask them. You can always send your GF to see another doctor for another opinion and perhaps a different course of treatment. I assume it is the ongoing cost of these medications that is the concern?

Life is one choice after another. At times, someone other than you has to step up and make a decision too. If you are unable to foot these costs yourself, perhaps the GF needs to take on a part time job to help with these costs until her primary salary, insurance or some other circumstance negates the need for the extra income. This is after all her body and her problem to resolve. You haven't said, "until death do us part" yet.

Some quick math suggests you are spending about $530 per month on the current drugs.

Love can be very expensive. So is owning a car. Sometimes reality forces us to choose.

Absolutely make sure you have her go a specialist at Clinica Abreu or HOMS ....etc. A second opinion is always good and it the end it might be considerably less expensive. Pelvic inflammations can be very dangerous.

ok then. i called farmacia carol in santiago (they are a chain and they are well stocked so best place to inquire):

cabergoline 0,5 mg, brand name dostinex, made by pfizer:
box with 2 pills is 1,306 pesos; box with 8 pills is 4,757 pesos.

floraflex, a box of 21 pills is 585 pesos.

So you have lots of information from the DR1 Docs.

There are several clinics that specialize in female situations that you might get another, or more, examine with another opinion. The cost for this may turn out less then what you are being told just for the meds.

I remember two in the Naco (?) area in S.D. but I can not find the address's.

Perhaps some of our DR1 girls can better inform you.

PID is an infection. She shouldn't need to be on the medication forever or until she has children, just until the infection has cleared. Be very careful, something really doesn't sound correct. As some other replies mentioned, insist (in a nice caring way) on seeing the clinic's diagnosis and only buy the meds yourself (don't just hand over cash). Note also if she's a doctor, is it possible she's requesting the meds for the clinic she works in for other young women who can't afford them (thus explaining why she needs the supply ongoing).

Also, the cabercoline is available as a generic and probably the other's as well. Most medications for the more common infections have exhausted their period of exclusivity.

Best of luck. -Jim

I cant understand how her prolactin would increase DUE to the ovaries being damaged? I smelled BS which is why i wrote on this board
. she claims the infection moved past the 'it can be easily cleared' stage. She apparently waited too long and was placed on gentamycin IV last week for 4-5 days. Something they do if the infection is bad. I am upset with her that she never asked the doctor for cheaper alternatives or considered the generic form of medication. So from and initial cost per month of 400-500$US. You folk have helped me lessen it to $115 p/mth. And after i speak with my doctor about any connection between PID and hyperprolacteamia this may again lessen what 'i might need to pay' ( at a minimum) to $12(585rd) a month. I am ****ed off. I do thank you for your contributions
