Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting a message here. I need some help, and I'm hoping that someone here might be able to help me.

I am a drummer. A friend is travelling to the DR next month and has said that he'd bring me a tambora when he comes back to the U.S. Can anyone direct me to a place in Santo Domingo where he can buy a Tambora?

Any musicians out there who can give me general advice on choosing a tambora - what to look for, what to avoid? Any idea how much I should expect the drum to cost?

Or, am I asking in the wrong place? Is there another group that you think might be better able to help me out.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

E

There are tamboras and there are tamboras.
At the Mercado Modelo on Mella, they sell tamboras.
If you are a professional drummer, and you need a real tambora, have your friend get in touch with any of the "Conjuntos T?picos" and ask where they get their drums.
The best ones are old nail kegs, covered with goat hides and tied up with manila hemp rope. they have to be tied and re-tied every now and then to preserve their tone, just like a normal drum...
