18-year old sent to custody after assaulting a classmate

18-year old Daniel Alberto Lopez Vazquez (Cuchi), accused of slapping, punching and hair pulling of a classmate at a Bayaguana public high school in Monte Plata, turned himself in to the authorities. The prosecutors ordered him to serve three months preventive custody.

The case went viral after it was shared on social media. Lopez initially hid, but was turned over to the authorities by his father and a lawyer. An arrest warrant had been issued for Lopez.

The video shows Lopez beating up a female classmate at the Liceo Educativo Felix Rafael Nova.

The 15-year old victim told Diario Libre that she does not know why her classmate beat her. Her father, Samuel Guini, said that Lopez is known for previous violent aggressions in the school.

The Ministry of Education says it is providing legal and psychological assistance to the victim and family.

Hitting a girl. I wonder where he learned that? Is there ANY chance that out there in this country right now there are future girlfriends/victims of his just waiting to meet this punk.

Also at 18 he would be considered an adult.

Are you questioning whether it's to much or not enough? An older guy assaults a younger smaller female, lucky he only got three months. Happened to one of our former students- straightened him out, hopefully it will for this guy too.

Hopefully they will teach this moron anger management and some basic respect. I think he was lucky with only 3 months.
As Gary said above he still may have to face some retribution from the girls family.

It's only preventive jail time while the trial is ongoing (medida de coerción). Depending on how long the trial lasts, his preventive jail time could be extended and he could be sentenced to more time or released.

This is how he has seen all his Tios and probably his Father handle women.. .so this is all he knows ..

Whether it's a girl or not. He should be charged. Is 3 months too much or too little? Well, don't do the crime if you can't do the time. It'll teach him that his actions have consequences, hopefully. But I do believe that if it wasn't for the social media aspect of this, he would never have been charged.

as a prior poster stated, it is not a sentence of 3 months. it is 3 months preventive custody, before his trial. he could end up doing a bit more time, which would be richly deserved, in light of his medieval behavior.

In Domestic situations , once reported the Husband ALSO gets like 30 days preventive custody, on the spot ..no exceptions

this is designed to prevent FAKE reports or the Women changing their minds , like they sometimes tend to do when the Police show up
.. so if you gonna report it, dont change your mind because he is going away for 30 days 100% for sure.

So in comparison, this 90 days sounds like they mean business, (when you compare it to a Domestic Beating, which could be a LOT worse) and only 30 days .. so in their way, they are in fact making an example out of him, til they get to him and decide what to do ..
Something also tells me that this 18 year old boy wont enjoy the Spooning & affection he will get from the other inmates so much either . ..

So what you're saying is that no matter whether it's true or not, if a woman (or man) reports that their partner has assaulted them you get 30 days, even if he/she changes their mind and says that it was a lie? I see plenty of room for vengeance reporting due to jealousy or whatever.

DR is lacking in a lot of areas, however when it comes to men beating on women (or girls)
to their credit, they tend to take it very seriously.

This was supposedly because he told her to move as he was trying to copy off the board. She told him to wait until she got her notebook back from the teacher. Obviously he didnt like her response. He also had a picture on his facebook with a pistol.

Not sure how that works in vengeance cases ... but i was referring to a REAL case ,where a woman might kiss and make up with her Man.. She can NOT change her mind, once she reports it .. he goes in for 30 days . and she is on her own.
Not sure if the cop has discretion in terms of was it REAL Abuse based on evidence , bruises , etc ....
but I think the intent was to prevent women from filing reports , the cops and "waste their time", and then she bails him out the very next day... These cops basically dont want to waste their time .. so in essence their TIME is more valuable than IF there was real abuse or not .In effect its meant to DISCOURAGE women from Reporting Abuse at all , that is really the only logical conclusion one can draw .
yeagh, its lacking for sure ..
maybe our good Dominican Attorney can elaborate if vengeance cases are a real concern, i guess it could be .
but i imagine it might be more a danger for Gringos than Dominican Men.. if you know what i mean.

that speaks to his level of intelligence. if she was blocking the board where she was standing, all he had to do to put an end to that matter was to move a little to the left, or to the right, as the case may be. however, one of two things happened here. either he is too dumb to have figured out the spatial solution, or too much of a neanderthal to allow himself to be inconvenienced by a mere female. after all, he probably learned from his sire that beating women is the best way to bring them to heel.
