child prostitution in DR is a difficult subject. it has been recently a recurring theme in a series of articles in listin diario and they tell a similar story, that many of the minors prostitute themselves willingly and voluntarily. how can one fight such trade when there is no understanding or even a concept of it being morally wrong and what lasting damage it causes?

it saddens me to read this even more so that we have two little nieces and an idea that somewhere in poor barrio little girls like that are being groomed to "remain totally still while sweaty men penetrate their girlish body without breasts or menstruation" (paraphrased from the article) is absolutely vile. and this calm acceptance of it as a fact of life is why the war on child prostitution will not be won neither in this generation nor the generation to come.

To some it is no different than prepping your child to work in the family run bakery or petrol station.

But yes it is very sad. I know a woman in BC in her early forties who has 9 children and loves turning tricks, she even introduced her then 15 year old daughter into the life. The girl was always bragging "soy una cuerra de verdad" and how she was banging this cop who always helped her when she got busted. Mom one afternoon brought her daughter into the Boathouse and tried to hook her up with some gringos. I told Lawrence that she was underage and I offered him to deal with the situation since I knew the 2 women, he gladly accepted and I went up to the mom telling her that her daughter was not welcome there. Without making a fuss she left.
That's one of the reasons I took my daughter out of there just to make sure that she wouldn't end up turning tricks.

I was running around with a girl for awhile who was midthirties and she and her mother talked casually about when mom had been a prostitute on the streets of Sosua 30 years ago. That is why when I hear people on this forum pretending that prostitution is somehow a new thing in Sosua I rebuff them. Also the two of them spoke hoping the daughter wh was about 12 when I knew them didn't get into the business until she was at least 15, or close.
