no tsunami threat...this time.

Living on an Island poses a 360 degree risk from a tsunami. The DR is surrounded by fault lines just off the coast and in the deep oceeans The Caribbean is a very active seismic region. If you live near the coast, at an elevation of less than 400 feet above sea level, how will you know that there has been an event that triggered a tsunami that is heading your way? Do you know how COE will alert the public in your area? Do you know where you are going to go to get out of the way?

Not a topic to obsess about, but something to have at least considered and have a plan for. The DR has been hit in the past with significant loss of life and property. Had this morning's quake sent waves our way, those on the NE & E coasts would have had less than an hour before getting their feet wet in the dark. These events do not always occur when the sun is up or when it is convenient. If everything works perfectly, you may have as little as 15 minutes from the event until you should be well on your way to higher ground. Warning from the local authorities may not give you that much time especially if you have to get up, get dressed and get going. With no comprehensive audible tsunami warning system in this country, if you are asleep...

Every day that passes brings us one day closer to the next time.

I won't know until it is too late should such a thing happen.

I have met and had coffee with people who are no longer alive because of a Tsunami.
