New York mother-of-two 'dies following botched boob job, tummy tuck and butt lift at Dominican Republic clinic'
Janelle Edwards, 25, reportedly travelled to the Dominican Republic for surgery
She is said to have had a tummy tuck, breast enhancement and buttock implants
The mother-of-two reportedly complained of pains after returning to New York
US authorities have issued a warning over the dangers of plastic surgery abroad

In March 2014 the U.S. Centers for Disease Control issued an alert after health authorities in the United States reported that at least 19 women in five states had developed serious mycobacterial wound infections over the previous 12 months following cosmetic procedures in the Dominican Republic such as liposuction, tummy tucks and breast implants.

Very sad. You really have to thoroughly investigate the reputation of the plastic surgeon you are dealing with - regardless of whether it is here, the US, Canada, or anywhere else.

All surgeries and many other medial interventions have an associated element of risk. It is imperative that clients ask about and completely understand these risks. Even though 5000 people before you have had favorable results with a particular doctor for the same procedure you are about to undergo, there is no guarantee that you won't be the 1 in {insert stat here} that will experience a negative result.

There is a potential high cost associated with having bigger boobs, a more rounded butt, even a smaller nose. Those who needlessly take on risk, are usually the first ones to end up losing the game of risk.

Makes you wonder how quickly she got on a plane to get back to NYC

Having just had a meeting y'day w/ a surgeon...for a more minor issue than this woman,
he advised against flying too soon..... after I suggested I'd be leaving the next day

It's just day surgery... but....

Buyer beware

A factor lacking in the DR plastic surgery equation and almost any surgery performed in the DR is an autonomous and internationally accredited medical oversight agency that perform surveys of medical facilities. The surveys are done to review healthcare quality at medical facilities with the aim of improving safety and car. Government oversight of medical facilities and professionals is casual. Clients seeking inexpensive medical procedures in the DR should be very wary of the risks involved by retaining services here. Buyer beware, know your medical provider.

PJT

It is so sad, she leave two young children behind. RIP

i know i am going to get flagellated for this, and maybe i deserve it. however, i just think that when you have two children, you have gotten to a point in life where such horsesh1t should not be a part of your to do list.

that having been said, RIP.

sadly we are living in a cruel world. only beautiful looking people are in.... women get depressed when they see their body after having 2 children.... they need emotional support from their husband. and that very often is not the case. rather the husband looks after other women with perfect bodies! It is sad! there are no real values anymore in this world. also greed of the doctors, they must tell their patients that such invasive procedures isn't a walk by. I feel very sad for the children. May time heal their soul and spirit.

I was planning on doing a laser operation on my eyes. Just after I was 'approved' by the doctor do the laser procedure my parents send me a documentary that was on Dutch tv on the risks of these procedures, including the ethical question of its medically ethical to damage a perfectly healthy organ (the procedure cuts nerve ends of your eyes) in order to get an esthetic or practical result.

I'm not sure if I agree with the opinions presented in the documentary on the ethical part, but the risks are there, even if they're small and for the doctors it's just a cash cow. I cancelled my laser procedure.

I had laser eye surgery.  It was done at a leading eye specialist in Fort Lauderdale.  Cost $5k for both eyes.  I had quite a strong astigmatism.  Personally I feel like it's the best five grand I've ever spent.

I almost replied Sandy but .... why bother, I thought ??

Gorgo
suppose for a moment... close your eyes.

after 2 children whatever goes wrong and the husband bolts
let's say you're the husband....

Now she's desperate and needs to 'join the race' again....
needs a bit of 'tightening' & 'replacement'

Like you , I don't always agree w/ a decision like that... but it ain't my call...
Let he who...... cast the first stone.....

as an old friend of mine once said.

Life can be tricky.....

as for vanity.... we've all got it.
we wash our hair & comb it.... why ???

as one small example... serves no better purpose combed

Some feel the risks are worth it. I had a friend go to Mexico for breast implants. Developed a infection and wound up losing half a breast. The cheaper prices in the DR and other places many times is the deciding factor of should I/shouldn't I. Very good question on how long after the procedure did she fly back to NYC. Blood clots and thrombosis can occur with these procedures and one reason patients are told to wait before traveling. Sad this happened.

Liposuction is another killer....
fat blobs get loose in the bloodstream.

Keepcoming - you got it.... for sure they leave too early

Not always the surgeon/surgery that makes a problem....

the patient can interfere with the results too

From the Daily Mail link in the OP - "Police sources told the news outlet that an initial autopsy had proved inconclusive but a doctor had told detectives a blood clot caused by the surgeries was to blame."
If you read this link which is in the Daily Mail article "Neighbors said Edwards returned home about a month ago." 30 days before a blood clot moves seems like a long time, no???

and why the hell no? having kids does not mean letting yourself go and looking like a bag of cottage cheese.

Ditto, but mine cost $2k in St. Petersburg.

20/400 with 2.75 diopter down to 20/15 with none.

Changed my life. Only had to stop flying for 60 days.

Now those growing cataracts are another issue...

Blood clots can develop without you knowing. Sounds like her clot may have moved. Also can depend on how your after care went. Did she adhere to the physicians warnings, etc... But these things can happen. Another issue is the amount of procedures done in one day. You really want to make sure that you have done all your homework before doing these procedures.

As for letting yourself go after having kids...well sometimes there are other priorities. Does not mean you will look like a bag of cottage cheese but doesn't mean it is necessary to take unnecessary risks either. Everyone (ok most) want to look good as we age, after child birth, etc...but at what cost.
