Xoom charges $.99 for recharges, plus their crummy exchange rate :)

I use them the day before we fly, so I have phone and internet upon arrival.

try etopuponline or another, I have my account setup so it automatically recharges $5 a month and add additional credit as needed. the automatic payments works great to keep your phone active when not in la rep dom

I have used ezetop.com for years, inside and outside of DR. Can only recommend.

Seems that also WW recommended them (the new branding) above.

I used to use the local banca to do all recharging, then they changed staff, and it was never again open on regular hours, or they never had any recargas for Orange or Claro left...

All these Services charge a service fee which seems small but as a Percentage is HUGE.. then add the ridiculous Exchange Rates, and you are probably paying a 30% Premium..
not sure why anyone would use them, except for an Emergency.

Get out your calculator JD

99 cent fee, 45.7 exchange rate

$10.99 gets 457.....

Find the 30% in there.

The newer systems are good.... gouging is gone

You can top up using online banking if you have a Dominican bank account. From Banco Popular it's really easy, you just set up your mobile account under the Communications tab and you can top up from there. I would also strongly recommend you check out the cost of getting a contract with Claro instead of using Pay as you Go services, even if you are not here often. Their new contracts let you carry over minutes you don't use from month to month, so work well for people who are not here some of the time. And they also include free calls to Claro cellphones and landlines.
