That the $DOP might actually stop declining and rise for at least a spell against the USD?

Seems like a constant devaluation over the last 10 years from 32's to now 47's.

Whatever interest people made in DOP certificate of deposits was more or less negated in the decline of the currency against the USD.

Testing my memory, I first visited here when 15 to 1 was the rate, 20 RD for a Presidente.
Didn't it take a small dip Post-Hipolito?

DOP lost about 50% over about 4 months July- Oct 2004. About 50 to 25.

I assume the people who control the money will want to make another windfall pretty soon.

Ask Pichardo.

Well actually, it increased in value significantly against the USD going from 50 to 25.

I believe it was in Hipolito's tenure as president that it peaked up around 50 and then when Leonel went back into office it started dropping again. It sucked because my favorite nicer restaurants in the capital, where I was living at the time, raised prices as the peso weakened but then as it gained back some of those loses they never lowered prices back to where they were.

It was 1 to 1 when I came in '75.  We got all excited when we could get 118 pesos for 100 USD (on the street)

I think the only person that could envision the scenario of the peso becoming worth more versus the dollar is PICHARDO.

It's not that bad when you depend on tourism to have a devaluating currency, and it has been a steady devaluation after Hipólito went out. Nothing spectacular or abruptly.
