Default What is this fruit tree?

Would someone please tell me what these are?. Hanging from a tree. If these are edible, how do you tell when they are ripe?

    Thx.

Photo is kind of dark, but it looks like a higuero. They don't eat them, if that's what it is. They are used to make things like maracas, bowls, etc.

That is exactly what it looks like to me. A decorative type of gourd like fruit strictly for decorative purposes. One those trees grows next to the restaurant El Caminante in Islabon and I asked about it some time ago.

    Higuero arbol:

Next time I'm close to that tree I'll take a better look at the leaves and bark based on AE's photo.

    Thx.
