It is quite humorous that many are taking umbrage with this selection as this post is basically an insignificant position. Other than those that may have been outraged by her predecessor's personal life, can anybody name one other ambassador to the RD, throughout the course of history without using Google? In the big scheme of things, it is rather trivial.

the selection of her predecessor was disturbing to posters here for more than the reason that his sexual ´preference was controversial.

it was also disturbing to many on the basis of who selected him to be Ambassador.

your observation about the significance of the post is spot on. as a matter of fact, can anybody name the Ambassador to China? Japan? Germany?

trivial is not the right word. Diplomatic communications between countries can be very beneficial as far as cultural, trade and social business are concerned and a good Ambassador can make a difference .

I, for one, did not care why a POTUS made someone an ambassador to a small country. I had an investor made ambassador to Australia under Bush 41 because he was a major 'Phant organizer in FL for Bush. My concern is how Brewster brought his personal agenda to the DR which was in direct conflict with prevailing culture.

The DR will tell her to go and pee up a rope. The article already has the reaction of the DR government to her comments:

The nomination of Bernstein, of Jewish descent, was made in October of last year by the president of the United States, Donald Trump.

The employer said last March that among her projects as an ambassador is working to respect the rights of the descendants of Haitians who are affected by the ruling of the Constitutional Court and who would work for them to obtain passports.

This sparked reactions from various sectors, including the Dominican Foreign Ministry, where the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miguel Vargas, declared that the country is free and sovereign, and that it does not accept interference from any other nation.

He assured that in the Dominican Republic there are no stateless persons and that it is governed according to its Constitution and the migratory laws.

"We are going to wait for the ambassador to come. Here we have no stateless registered. This is a country that is governed by the Constitution and Dominican laws and it is our commitment to enforce them, "said the chancellor on that occasion.

Bernstein has served as president and director of Richard S. Bernstein and Associate, Inc. since 2004, and vice president and director of Rizbur, Inc. since 2002, both in West Palm Beach, Florida.
