Dominican mail agency signs with USPS to track mail
The Dominican Postal Institute (Inposdom) and the US Postal Service (USPS) signed an agreement when meeting in Uruguay to increase levels of security and efficiency in the mail between both countries. Signing were Modesto Guzman, executive director for Inposdom and Franca Davis, managing director for global business at USPS. The agreement calls for the exchange of customs data.

Guzman explained that the flow of information will facilitate the mail to and from both territories, allowing authorities to identify and track any shipments that could represent a threat. He said the new high tech conventions seek to proactively prevent crime through the mail services despite this threat being “minimal,” said Guzman.

Also present at the signing for USPS were Lea Emerson, executive director, International Postal Affairs; Jimmy Ortiz, manager, International Postal Relations; and Tiffany Roman Biffa, International Postal Affairs specialist. Also present was Greg Thome, director of the Office of Specialized and Technical Agencies [IO/STA], Bureau of International Organization Affairs [IO], of the United States Department of State.

How does USPS tracking work where there is no delivery of mail?

Now for my question on this: Since USPS mail tracking has options to require the signature of the recipient, how is this going to work in the DR where there is no mail delivery to residences?

Not to mention that US mail carriers have a handheld scanner used upon delivery...........can’t see that happening there

Heck the USPS can't even 'track' mail in the US. They only can tell you it's been delivered - but not always at the right address :p

Sometimes they don't even tell you it's been delivered until the next working day...by then, someone has pinched-it-out of your mailbox!

USPS do international shipping with tracking, you have to pay extra for tracking. The tracking number is passed on to INPOSDOM when shipment arrive in the country, and from there you track it on the INPOSDOM website. I just did it, arrived in Santo Domingo on Friday I picked it up at the post office Monday. I'm not sure if it's any cheaper than DHL, I had no choice DHL in Canada didn't accept my address which was just BS since I receive from Miami with DHL with no issues. Anyway.. USPS with tracking is another option it works.

That certainly is one way for the system to work using USPS. Actually delivering mail to your residence and getting your signature would so much better without having to go to a local post office.

I agree on that but I was still surprised when I could track the package on INPOSDOM. I guess we have to train them up to get them to bring it to the doorstep.
