Aside from the fact that the current mayor of Salcedo is a woman, she makes very strong emphasis through out the interview of how Salcedo's new administration has a strong focus on 're-valuing' women.
Perhaps this is a sign of the slowly but surely changing role of women in Dominican Republic. This mayor has taken Salcedo and basically is transforming the town to become the first in the DR to value women at many levels, including in the naming of places among other things.
Very interesting interview that could probably spawn interesting discussions in the Women's Forum. Maybe it could lead to other DR1 women bringing to light similar situations in other parts of the country where women are doing things to change the image and expectation towards the gender. "
