Hi

I want to send $9500 Canadian from my Canadian Scotiabank account to a friend's account in Banco Popular in the Dominican Republic.

Scotiabank in Canada tells me I need the Popular

Popular account number
Popular transit number (branch number I think ... Sucursal?)
Popular Bank number
Popular Swift code number

Does anyone know the Popular Bank Number? and Popular Swift Code number?

Also is it cheaper just to use Western Union transfer via Scotiabank. I have sent money via Western Union from Scotiaonline. They charge $18 Canadian per $1000 sent but I think they give a better exchange than the banks.

Any current experience/insights would be appreciated.

No sanki panky warnings necessary ... just a lifelong family friend for more than 25 years.

Thanks

tell friend to go to popular and get that information, or check on line as it should be there, I know I can get it fro BHD, you will also need the information for the routing bank and all of their swifts etc too in the USA as the $$ routed through there the last time i did a transfer

Banco popular do not have branch numbers - just an account number. The Swift Code is BPDODOSXXXX

These are the routing banks that Banco Popular uses

TRANSFERENCIA DESDE ESTADOS UNIDOS

Para recibir transferencias en una cuenta (en pesos o dólares) del Banco Popular Dominicano, el emisor deberá utilizar uno de estos bancos corresponsales en los Estados Unidos:

The Bank of America Merrill Lynch: ABA 026009593
The Bank of New York Mellon: ABA 021000018
Citibank, N.A. New York: ABA 021000089
Deutsche Bank Trust Company Americas. New York: ABA 021000033
Wells Fargo Bank N.A.: ABA 026005092

You'll need to go to the bank
Website does not identify Canada but can be routed thru the US intermediary - I expect.

Website gives routing SWIFT, etc

Like sylinder said.
Get the info at the bank.
I did a transfer last year.

Can-Dom.

You are forced to go through U.S. intermediary. You choose which one.
Banking hanky-panky to grab extra cash.

Bank wire is more cost effective than Western Union.

The service charge for a wire transfer is usually fixed, no matter the amount. Less than $50 charge.
