From the December 2 my girlfriend and I have been on holiday in a flat in Sosua. It is nice and is funish with a 5-gallon water jug we use it for drinking and cooking water.
We have used 4 bottles. The landlord replaces, but he charge us equal to 5 euros each bottle.
I learn yesterday the cost he pays is 60 pesos. A driver brings the water to the apartments by a scooter lorry.
I can pay a fee but this seem like too much. I even helped the cart driver carry several bottles into the landlord's storage area the other day.

I don't want to be rude but we stay until end of February and will use more bottles. Maybe I say something ? What do others landlords sell for 5 gallons of water ?

I refill my own bottles at the water plant for 25 pesos each. You're being screwed royally. Welcome to the DR.

You buy your first full bottle for 150 - 200 pesos, then when it’s empty you take it to a store and they trade it for a full one for 35-45 pesos depending on the store, you just pay for the water after the initial deposit on the bottle.  The landlord is gringo charging you, get your own water.  Even if you have to pay a moto to trade bottles for you it will be cheaper than the landlord.

Calling the initial charge for the plastic bottle a deposit is a bit of a stretch. Try getting the "deposit" back for an empty bottle where you purchased it or anywhere else for that matter. :?-)

Most Colmados charge 40-50 pesos per bottle, and home fills are usually cheaper. You are complaining about less than $1:50 for 5 gallons of water? Less than the cost of a beer.

He is paying the landlord 5 Euros per bottle. Check your math Bob.

You are not being rude, but you are being taking advantage of. Buy your own 5 gallon water, a lot cheaper.

In SD (bella Vista) the price of a bottle went up to 75 peso’s (at the Colmado). Agua Crystal or Planeta Azul.

Anybody can be a Gringo, the term Gringo does not refer to one's skin tone.
OP was referring to "Gringo Charges", not the one charging.
One can be white, and a NON-Gringo, a white Dominican is not a Gringo.

You are being charged GRINGO prices!

In the DR anyone that is not Dominican is rated as a Gringo. Fair game for ripoffs. I know Cubans that get Gringo prices all the time.

Mr AE even gets gringo prices thrown at him, because he dresses like an American instead of a Dominican.

Now that you say this I know some Dominicans that live in NY. When they come here they get the Gringo prices also as people know they live in NY and are rich.
